What is TRE®?
TRE® (Tension & Trauma Releasing Exercises) is a series of simple exercises that activate the body's natural shaking response.
These gentle tremors can help release accumulated stress, muscular tension, and nervous system overload.
Think of it as your body's built-in reset mechanism.
Many people are surprised to discover this response has been there all along.
Your Body is Innately Designed To Recover From Stress
Nature gave mammals an extraordinary ability to respond to stress—and recover from it.
When a gazelle senses danger, its body automatically releases powerful stress chemicals that prepare it to run, fight, or survive.
Humans are born with this same biological response.
But survival is only half of the story.
The body also has a natural way to release the energy and tension created during stressful experiences.
When animals reach safety, they often shake, tremble, or discharge this excess energy before returning to a calm and balanced state.
Humans are born with this same innate ability.
So What Happened?
Many of us learned to override this natural recovery process for fear of looking weird or weak.
We learned to:
Be strong.
Stay focused.
Push through.
Keep going.
Over time, the body adapts by holding onto tension rather than releasing it.
Your nervous system influences nearly every system in your body.
Chronic stress doesn't just affect mood—it influences sleep, immunity, digestion, inflammation, pain, focus, recovery, cardiovascular health, and emotional resilience.
Over time, scientists describe this accumulated burden as allostatic load—the "wear and tear" that chronic stress places on the body.
Helping your nervous system regularly return to a state of regulation may be one of the most important investments you can make in your overall well-being.
Your Body Already Has a Built-In Stress Release Mechanism.
TRE® uses a series of simple guided exercises designed to activate neurogenic tremors — a natural reflex mechanism found in the human body.
These gentle tremors help the body release deep muscular tension and excess nervous system activation.
Many people have learned to suppress or override this natural response while pushing through stress, pressure, and everyday life.
TRE® creates a safe opportunity for the body to access this mechanism again.
Think of it like discovering a built-in reset feature your body already had - you just didn’t realize it!
The TRE® Process
A natural pathway to release stress and reset your nervous system.
(1) Gentle Exercises
7 simple exercises that gently stretch and mildly fatigue the lower body muscles, preparing the body to tremor.
(2) Neurogenic Tremor Activation
The body’s natural tremor mechanism is activated, creating an access point for stress and tension held in the body.
(3) Discharge and Release
Gentle tremors help the body discharge excess stress, tension, and nervous system activation in a safe and natural way.
(4) Integration
We allow the body and nervous system to rest, absorb, and reset—supporting a state of greater balance, and well-being.
(5) A Practice for Life
Make TRE® part of your overall well-being lifestyle. After learning TRE®, practice up to 3x/week on your own or attend online refresher group sessions.
Your body already knows what to do.
TRE® simply helps you access it.
What Does TRE® Feel Like?
Each person’s experience is unique.
Some people notice:
gentle shaking or vibration
deep relaxation
warmth or tingling
emotional release
spontaneous stretching
reduced tension
calmness and mental clarity
improved sleep
feeling lighter or more grounded
For many people, TRE® feels like:
a nervous system reset
a full-body exhale
deep physical relief
finally being able to relax
Is TRE® Safe?
TRE® is considered safe when practiced responsibly and learned with proper guidance from a certified TRE® Provider.
Self-regulation is one of the most important parts of the TRE® process. This means learning how to slow down, pause, or stop the tremoring process whenever needed.
TRE® Intro Workshops and private 1:1 sessions, allow participants to learn:
the foundational exercises
nervous system awareness
grounding techniques
self-regulation skills
how to work with their body safely and comfortably
The intention is enablement and empowerment — helping you develop a safe and sustainable personal practice over time.
